Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have fundamentally transformed the way humans interact with technology. This study investigates the potential impact of superintelligent AI on human life by analyzing the film Her through the lens of McLuhan's tetrad framework. Focusing on the four elements of enhancement, obsolescence, retrieval, and reversal, the analysis reveals that AI enhances human capabilities by improving intellectual functions, such as language processing, information access, multitasking, and creative production, while also providing emotional support and enabling new forms of relational bonds. However, it also contributes to the obsolescence of traditional communication methods, including letter writing, face-to-face conversations, and physical contact, as human interactions are increasingly being replaced by interactions with AI. In terms of retrieval, this study found that oral communication modes and analog sensibilities from the past are recontextualized within digital environments, leading to hyperpersonalized relationships instead of communal ones, accompanied by aesthetic figures and remediation phenomena. At the reversal stage, psychological dependence on AI intensifies, raising concerns about privacy infringement, threats to identity and existential meaning, and the inversion of hierarchies between humans and AI. These four aspects are interdependent and exhibit a cyclical structure. The findings suggest that AI functions not only as a utilitarian tool but also as a medium that actively restructures daily life and human relational systems. |
