Since ChatGPT was released in November 2022, global interest in generative AI (GAI) has surged. GAI can provide users with various digital content such as text, audio, images, videos, and 3D content. In addition, while early-stage GAI services could only process text-based digital content from users, the range of digital content that can be used as input, such as audio, images, and videos, has gradually expanded, and performance approaching artificial general intelligence (AGI) is increasingly anticipated. Accordingly, numerous studies on the educational use of GAI have emerged domestically and internationally. In this study, we classified GAI services according to the type of generated content and applied a SWOT analysis of their educational use. We analyzed the general functions, advantages, and disadvantages of major GAI services such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Notion AI, Claude, and DeepSeek, and compared them to derive 11 functions, 15 advantages, and 16 disadvantages. Based on this, 11 strengths, 12 weaknesses, 11 opportunities, and 12 threats were derived through SWOT analysis of the educational use of major GAI services. Our conclusions derived from this study are expected to provide insights to researchers and teachers who are considering the educational use of GAI services in the future or designing new teaching methods.
