<Abstract>

This paper explored the fusion study method of Buddhism and digital issues from the viewpoint of digital humanities. First of all, the problem of the quality of the data currently held by Buddhist data centers in the area of data and the solutions were discussed, centering on the concept of machine-readable data and the semantic web. I emphasized the Semantic Web concept, which is able to describe various semantic relations of humanities among machine readable data, which is important to inform computer more information from the concept of human readable data. Based on this, the Buddhist AI ethical model, which is an application model for a digital Buddhist knowledge system, was proposed and a method for upgrading Buddhist data was specifically put forward.
Then, in the area of analysis and interpretation, I discussed the present situation with and possibilities of language analysis, social network analysis, and spatial analysis. Regarding linguistic analysis, the “CBETA digital research platform” and “Leishu Corresponding Inquiry System” (類書對應查詢系統) were introduced, and the possibility of Buddhist research using the language analysis method was suggested. In the analysis of social networks, I introduced the “visualization of the Memoirs of Eminent Monks (高僧傳) social network” and “Mapping the Republic of Letters” projects and suggested the possibility of studying Buddhism using network analysis. In the spatial analysis, I introduced the “Gaoseng Zhuan GIS system” (佛教傳記文學地理資訊系統) and “the drift node visual network in the Joseon Dynasty,” and suggested the possibility of studying Buddhism using spatial analysis.
Finally, in the visualization part, I introduced the “CBETA online reading” (線上閱讀) and “digital storytelling resource development of Korean documentary heritage,” described the visualization of Buddhist data. Visualization for researchers is the maximization of research efficiency through linkage of original information and research information. Multimedia visualization for general Buddhism uses a new technology (virtual reality, augmented reality, etc.) that can be used in digital by moving away from the paper medium and enhancing accessibility to subjects in which general Buddhist texts are difficult to understand or difficult to access can do.
