A Study on the Humanization of AI and the Domination of AI on Humans in Film

- Focusing on body AI and hyper AI -

Two main topics can be distinguished from artificial intelligence (AI) films. These topics can be described with terms ‘ body AI’ and ‘hyper AI’. ‘Body AI’ means that other biologically manufactured organisms have embodied their consciousness or have been educated and trained independently and have continued to educate themselves. The plot pattern for these films is that the beings created by technology intend to become more human. Movies with another goal show a technique expressed as ‘hyper AI’ that tries to surpass humankind because it is not bound to the body. They are not bound to the limits of a human-like body and try to gain control over people. Many AI films act as warnings about surrendering to a possibly uncontrollable technology or giving advice on what to watch out for to keep this technology in control. Fictional films, therefore, are part of a society-wide discourse on AI. Feature films project potential worlds of technological developments onto the screen. Whether developments in AI lead to humanity’s benefit or demise?. The future outside the cinemas will show.
