abstract

In order to lay the groundwork for the design of AI liberal arts education in Korean universities, this study investigated cases of liberal arts education in US and German universities. Three types of AI liberal arts education in the United States were identified. First, subjects that require humanities, philosophical, and social science discussions on AI, second, science introductory subjects for non-science majors, and third, subjects that converge AI with other majors. In the case of Germany, an attempt was made to introduce convergence subjects related to artificial intelligence at 12 universities across Germany, which are summarized in the academic unit called “digital humanities”. Based on the cases of Germany and the United States, first, AI basic education for all students regardless of major, second, interdisciplinary AI education integrated with existing individual majors, and third, various and step-by-step AI·computer-related education designs in which continuity of study for non-science majors are guaranteed are suggested for Korean AI liberal arts education.
